Going Caffeine Free
GOING CAFFEINE FREE
Coffee and tea are two of the world’s beverages of choice, and while many people understand that coffee contains caffeine and it is consumed for its stimulatory effects, it’s important to note that tea also contains caffeine.
The caffeine component found in the camellia sinensis plant contains varying degrees of caffeine, depending on how and when the plant is harvested and processed. Dependent on the growing techniques and treatments that the tea leaves undergo, they are then classified as white tea, green tea, yellow tea, oolong tea, black tea or matcha tea, all of which are caffeinated but to varying levels.
Vanilla – a worldwide shortage
VANILLA – A WORLD WIDE SHORTAGE
Not only is it the second most expensive spice in the world, it is one of the most labour intensive foods on earth.
After the flowers are pollinated by hand and the seed pods are harvested, each pod is soaked in hot water, wrapped in a woollen blanket for about 48 hours, placed in a box to sweat and are later laid out to dry in the sun. The whole process takes months to complete.

HOT TEA NOT YOUR THING? TRY THIS RECIPE…
In many countries around the world, conventional wisdom says that a hot drink can cool you down on a hot day, so being the tea lovers that we are, we endeavoured to find out if this was fact true, or simply an old wives tale.
As it turns out, a researcher at The University of Ottawa’s School of Human Kinetics decided this was a question worth pursuing, and a study was subsequently published in 2012 on body heat storage and hot fluid ingestion. The short answer is, yes, a hot drink can cool you down, however this is mostly due to the increase in perspiration, and subsequent evaporation from the skin, which has a cooling effect.
