Winter Wellness

Winter invites us to slow down and embrace a more nurturing pace. As the days grow colder and we spend more time indoors, it's a natural opportunity to care for ourselves more intentionally, nourishing both mind and body.

As the cooler months settle in, winter offers a unique opportunity to slow down, nurture our bodies, reflect, reset and cultivate resilience. It's a season that invites us to embrace rest, establish grounding rituals, and support our wellbeing with intention. It needn’t be a season of gloom but rather one for positive renewal as we build on our foundations to thrive through winter with grace.

Below are my top five tips to thrive through winter and you can also find my favourite winter blends here.

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness."
- John Steinbeck

1. Nourish with seasonal wholefoods
Increase nutrient dense, grounding wholefoods, including wholesome grains, root vegetables and leafy greens. We also need to increase our fresh seasonal fruits rich in vitamin C such as citrus, kiwi fruit, strawberries and papaya.

2. Support your gut health
Take care of your gut health by ensuring a variety of pre and probiotic foods to help balance gut flora. Sauerkraut, tempeh, tofu, kombucha, can all help support healthy gut flora which has been shown to have a significant benefit to immune function.

3. Care for your body with movement and relaxation
Equip yourself with tools for movement and relaxation, like a regular yoga class, a yoga mat for stretching at home, or regular meditation or breath work. These grounding and balancing rituals will help you connect with your body and feel your best during the cooler parts of the year.

4. Spend time outdoors
By investing in thermals, a wetsuit, a warm coat or good shoes, you can ensure you are comfortable in the colder weather and will be more likely to get outside, embrace the day and keep your body moving which in turn will help your immune system.

5. Utilise supportive herbs
Source herbs that can enhance and support your health through simple daily rituals. We can bring herbs and spices into our diet by adding them to meals, or enjoying them as tonics or teas. Some of my favourite nourishing winter herbs and spices are ginger, turmeric, chilli, garlic, echinacea and licorice root.

Let this beautiful season be one of rest, ritual, and resilience full of positive renewal as we build on our foundations to thrive through winter with grace.

Wishing you health and happiness,

Emma xx
