Welcome Spring

WELCOME SPRING

It is important to pay attention to the change in seasons and allow ourselves the time to make the necessary changes to our diet and lifestyle, to ensure we remain in harmony with nature, working with it, and remaining connected to it.

Now that the cold, dark and short days of winter have passed, we enter one of the most beautiful times of year, and for many of us, we warmly welcome spring with open arms. As we transition from Winter (a Yin season,) into spring, (a more Yang season,) we enter a time of rebirth, renewal and fresh life.

If you have new ideas and goals you have been considering, spring is the perfect time to turn these into reality. It is the season for manifesting and bringing plans to fruition. For creating, for doing and for allowing your plans to unfold. At this time, it is important to set very clear intentions and focus on the outcomes you desire.

In terms of your health, the liver is the main organ associated with spring, as it stores blood and supports the healthy flow of chi. The liver is also in charge of detoxification and clearing toxins from the body, removing the old to make way for the new. Exercise, and wholesome, cleansing foods will support the balance and flow of liver chi and support detoxification.

Post winter natural skin support:

If your skin is looking a little dry and dull from extended periods of time indoors, with artificial heating drying it out, spring is a great time to focus on giving back to this amazing organ. Essential fatty acids help keep your skin plump, and help reduce dryness, eczema and psoriasis. You can bring foods into your diet that are rich in essential fatty acids, including fish, avocados, and nuts and seeds. If you feel your skin is suffering from a winter lacking in antioxidant rich, vibrant foods, you can introduce a nutrient packed fresh juice to the start of your day, to ensure a wide range of nutrients are ingested without too much thought going into meal preparation.

Our Skin Glow tea has been designed to help support healthy skin, by supporting detoxification and reducing the workload for the skin. This holistic approach to improving the condition of your skin, ensures that you are working from the inside out rather than applying products topically. This is key to ongoing natural healthy skin.

Diet:

Diet is where we have the greatest opportunity to provide the body with a wide range of vitamins and minerals, to support the immune system. Eating a wholesome variety of fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits, quality protein sources and whole grains, will ensure the body has access to an abundance of key nutrients to keep you strong and healthy. Some of these include Zinc, B vitamins, Vitamin C and Selenium. An easy way to ensure spring is full of fresh and nutrient dense fruits and vegetables is to add a fresh juice to your morning routine.

You can create your own recipe, but any variation of seasonal and fresh ingredients is a great place to start. Beetroot, carrot, celery, turmeric, ginger and kale makes an amazing nutrient rich tonic, that is packed with a range of vitamins and minerals.

Lifestyle:

In terms of physical health, spring is a time for cleansing, and clearing out after the slower pace of winter, as we move into a fresh new phase, and welcome new beginnings and change. Through winter, we often choose to remain indoors, which means we are in close contact with others more frequently and for longer periods of time. Come spring, we need to ensure we spend more time outdoors, in the fresh air and sunshine. If you need to be indoors for long periods of the day, try to open the doors or windows to allow fresh air and sunlight into the space. The lack of exposure to the sun through winter can often lead to low vitamin D levels. Make sure you spend some time in direct sunlight each day to ensure you maintain healthy vitamin D levels.

Regular exercise is really important and often gets pushed to the side during winter. As we step into spring, it is important to make the most of the beautiful weather and embrace the outdoors. Regular, outdoor exercise offers a huge range of benefits for your mind and body. Giving yourself a new spring routine will help ensure you schedule time for exercise throughout the week.

Exercising outdoors helps us stay connected to Mother nature, stay grounded and provides your body with fresh oxygen. It also exposes the body to natural light, which is the best source of Vitamin D.

Teas recommended for spring:

As the weather warms up, it is important to remain hydrated. Tea is a great way to re-hydrate, whilst also gaining the therapeutic benefit of the individual herbs, tea and spice. At this time of year, we need to look for herbs which have traditionally been used to encourage detoxification, support healthy metabolism and digestion and support the skin after the harsh conditions of winter. We have selected the following blends to help carry you through spring in great health.

Detox tea is perfect through spring. In Chinese medicine, the Liver is the organ most focused on through spring, and our Detox tea has been designed to support the detoxification of the liver and to help clear impurities. Spring is a time of cleansing and clearing out the old, so this is a well aligned blend to introduce at this time. If the liver is imbalanced, you may feel your mood shift into a more negative space, where more sluggish, angry or sad emotions may come to the surface. This is a clear indicator that the liver needs support and herbs offer a gentle, yet effective form of support.

Skin Glow tea has been designed to support detoxification, to filter impurities from the skin, and to improve the clearance of toxins, which helps reduce the workload for the skin. This blend offers the skin support through spring, especially after the challenges placed on it through winter.

Our metabolism may be a little sluggish after winter, when our intake of fresh, healthy foods may have slipped, and exercise may have been more of a challenge. Metabolism tea offers natural support for healthy metabolic function, stabilise blood sugar levels, and help curb sugar cravings.

Our digestive function often needs some support after the slower pace of winter. Spring is an ideal time to focus on bringing herbs into our diet that offer support for the digestive system. Many of these herbs can be found in our Digestive tea blend, which works to help support and repair the digestive system, which can, in turn, support the breakdown and absorption of nutrients.

Matcha tea and Green tea offer powerful antioxidants which may have been lacking from dietary sources through winter. These teas contain caffeine, so they are best enjoyed in the morning to ensure we are not overly stimulated before bed.

Vitality tea is also a great tea to enjoy at the beginning of the day. This blend is perfect through spring, as it is based on herbs which have traditionally been used to support energy production, reduce fatigue and support physical endurance. This holistic tonic is perfect to help support your vitality through spring.

Caffeine Free Chai offers an alternative to a black tea based chai, perfect after dinner or before bed. This blend is mineral and antioxidant rich, perfect with or without milk.

Calming tea offers support for the nervous system, to help carry your body through the change in seasons. Herbs used in this blend have traditionally been used to help support the nervous system and help you cope with stress.

Get ready to blossom.

With Love,
Emma.
