Gyokuro sometimes known as jade dew tea, is a type of shade grown Japanese green tea. Revered by locals, Gyokuro is the most precious of all Japanese green tea. It is produced entirely by hand so utmost care is taken with every stage of production. Gyokuro plantations are covered by shade for the last 3 weeks before harvest so that at least 80 -90% of the suns rays are covered from the plants. This process ensures the leaves release much more chlorophyll and amino acids while producing fewer tannins than regular green tea. Gyokuro tea has a beautiful dark emerald green colour and offers a subtle, vegetal and slightly buttery taste for the discerning green tea drinker.
Place a heaped teaspoon (2.5 grams) of tea per cup (250ml) into a teapot or infuser, add filtered water at 60ºc-70ºc and allow to infuse for 3 – 4 minutes, strain the tea and serve.
